Uganda Cranes Head Coach ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has named midfielder Khalid Aucho as the new captain ahead of the World Cup qualifiers’ doubleheader against Rwanda.

The Cranes are scheduled to face Amavubi stars on Thursday, October 7 in Kigali for the first leg of Group E fixtures. The two sides will again meet on October 10 at St Mary’s Stadium Kitende for the return leg.

Emmanuel Okwi who was named as captain following the retirement of goalkeeper Denis Onyango is not in the current squad since he is not attached to any club.

Aucho made his debut for the Cranes against Rwanda in a 1–0 victory at the 2013 CECAFA Cup. He has since managed to get 45 caps on his name.

The Yanga SC midfielder will be assisted by Taddeo Lwanga and Denis Iguma.

Speaking during today’s press conference, Aucho expressed his readiness to lead the team as he revealed that their target is to get maximum points from the two games.

“We will be playing for nothing less than a win in the 2 games against Rwanda,” said Aucho.
