Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among has challenged women to take up top positions in different institutions.

While paying tribute to the late Hon. Alice Florence Lubega, the First Woman Member in Parliament of Uganda, Among said that women leaders should not be intimidated by those who want to bring them down.

“Please stand firm; I assure you that I am here for ten years as deputy speaker and ten as speaker,” said Among.

She noted that the late Alice was a remarkable debater who gained popularity for her firm stand against the executive.

“We celebrate her mentorship, inspiration, and courage that opened barriers for women leaders. May the Lord grant her eternal rest,” said Among.

Hon. Alice Florence passed on last week.

Meanwhile, before Rebecca Kadaga was elected Speaker of the 9th and 10th Parliament, she was Deputy Speaker for 10 years. Similarly, Jacob Oulanyah was elected Speaker of the 11th parliament this year after serving as Deputy Speaker for 10 years.
