Man commits suicide after spending SACCO money meant to be shared before Christmas

A 37-year-old man has reportedly committed suicide after using up Shs10 million belonging to a village savings group in Lira District.

Oming Patrick, a resident of Amokogee parish, Wiodyek sub-county ended his life over group savings he expended.

According to the local news websites, the deceased has been a treasurer of a village group, Neno Abor in Abia-mwonyi village, Amokogee parish, and has been in the custody of Shs10m.

Reports indicate that the money was meant to be divided amongst the group members on Sunday morning (yesterday).

Okwir Tony is the group’s chairperson said that on Saturday, he reminded the deceased to be ready with. However, he was shocked to hear the news that Oming had hanged himself.

The Police Commander Lira City East Division, Godfry Abigaba said investigations are underway.
