Uganda confirms 1,093 new COVID-19 cases, Health Ministry urges public to take booster doses

The ministry of health has announced 1,093 new COVID-19 cases. The cumulative confirmed cases are 131,981.

The breakdown of the new cases is;

1,068 Alerts And Contacts; Kampala (702), Wakiso (231), Mbarara (24), Luweero (18), Jinja (15), Mbale (12), Kabale (5), Arua (5), Iganga (4), Amuru (9), Kiruhura (4), Soroti (9), Busia (3), Napak (2), Tororo (6), Masindi (1), Hoima (1), Namisindwa (1), Nwoya (1) Kanungu (2), Kyotera (13).

While addressing the media yesterday, The Minister of Health Dr. Ruth Jane Aceng said as Ugandans enjoy Christmas they should follow SOPs because the pandemic is on the rise.

With the new variant, Omicron spreading like wildfire, Aceng disclosed urged the public to take booster doses.

“After evaluating the evidence, the Ministry of Health recommends booster doses for persons above 50 years and persons with comorbidities to further enhance their immunity,” said Minister Aceng.

“It is the responsibility of everyone to protect the window of opening the economy in January 2022,” she added.

The minister also disclosed that some vaccines have been approved to be mixed. She said those who got AstraZeneca doses are free to get Pfizer or Moderna for the booster shots whereas those who got Pfizer are free to get AstraZeneca as booster shots.

Also, those who first got Moderna does are free to get AstraZeneca as booster shots, AstraZeneca or Pfizer or Moderna for those who first got Sinopharm Covid dozes and Sinovac whereas those who got Johnson and Johnson are free to get Pfizer or Moderna for a booster jab.
