Sarah Achieng Opendi, the former State Minister of Mineral Development of Uganda and Tororo Woman Member of Parliament, has asked the Education Ministry to ban secular musicians from performing in schools.

According to Opendi, as a mother, she feels concerned about the way musicians dress and behave when performing in schools.

“Uganda is a religious country with a constitution (1995) whose ethical values must be upheld, more so safeguarding children with good morals,” says Opendi.

Last week, the former minister raised a similar matter on the floor of parliament.

“What forced me to bring up this issue in Parliament is that musicians dress badly while performing in schools and even their dances are not good for kids. Parents bring their children to learn morals and values, “says Opendi.

She adds, “You cannot pull off those dances we see musicians do in school and also dress indecently.” It is very unfortunate that we have witnessed videos of nursery children dancing the same moves. “

She urges musicians to be good role models for the students.
