As fears of Russian advances grow, the Ukrainian people prepare for the worst.

As tensions and a potential war loom between Russia and Ukraine, there is an increasing concern among the locals that soon most parts of the country will be affected.

As this news spreads throughout the country, local populations are quickly moving to arm themselves, to ensure they are well equipped for the worst-case scenario. The City of Dnipro, for example, which has yet to be directly impacted by fighting, saw its citizens over the weekend gathering together to make Molotov cocktails.

The Molotov cocktail is essentially a homemade firebomb that creates a huge explosion due to the abundance of its flammable components. A group of women, composed of teachers and nurses, were this morning working hard to quickly produce this lethal bomb.

According to BBC foreign correspondent Sarah Rainsford, these women are ready to defend their city.

“In Dnipro crowds of women spent Saturday making Molotov cocktails. Teachers, lawyers, housewives, all crouched on the grass, filling bottles. They told me they try not to think about what they’re doing. They didn’t choose this. But they have to be ready to defend their city,” she tweeted.

This is sadly now the harsh day-to-day reality most Ukrainian citizens face. It’s evident, however, that people are banding together to face the potential forthcoming catastrophe.
