When you check out social media, specifically Twitter, the 1st Deputy Prime Minister, Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, and Deputy Speaker Anita Among are trending in Uganda.

One may wonder why! For Kadaga, she has been among the top five trends in Uganda since the death of Speaker Jacob Oulanyah.

However, following the announcement by the Government Chief Whip Thomas Tayebwa that the ruling NRM party will be holding a special caucus meeting to discuss the issue of Speaker of Parliament, Kadaga’s name has once again been trending.

According to the social media trends about Kadaga’s name, many are wondering if she will consider running for speakership again. Last year, Kadaga was defeated by fallen Speaker Oulanyah. For Kadaga to stand, she will have to first resign from her ministerial post.

Also, Deputy Speaker Anita Among’s name is trending. This is after the NRM caucus Vice-Chairperson Herbert Kinobe disclosed that Among is expected to express her interest in the speakership race as NRM flag bearer today at 11 am at NRM electoral commission offices.

NRM members are today expected to express interest in the speakership race. On Wednesday, their names will be discussed in the Central Executive Committee (CEC) and on Thursday the caucus meeting will decide on who will be their flagbearer.
