The Ministry of Health says all incoming and outgoing travellers who are fully vaccinated will no longer need to present a negative PCR test done within 72 hours before entering or leaving the country.

Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng made the announcement while addressing journalists at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala this afternoon.

“The requirement for a negative PCR test done within 72 hours of pre-boarding for all incoming travellers is suspended with immediate effect for those who are fully vaccinated,” said Aceng.

She added, “All in-bound and outbound travellers will be required to show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination, except for travellers aged 5 years and below.”

Previously, all travellers entering the country were required to produce a costly negative PCR test.

Aceng also said that people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will not be required to wear face masks when they are outdoors unless they are in crowded areas.

To date, the country has registered 164,118 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 3,596 deaths.

Also, 15,268,403 people have received the 1st dose while 10,250,742 people are fully vaccinated. 59,542 people have received their booster dose.

The Ministry will embark on the vaccination of secondary school children to protect them from severe COVID-19 starting May 9, 2022.
