Uganda Cranes once again failed to make it out of the African Nations Championship group stages for the sixth time.

Following a 1-0 win over Senegal on Wednesday in Annaba, Uganda hoped to make it out of the group for the first time in history.

Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Senegal was the country’s second victory, having picked up their first against Burkina Faso (2-1) in 2014.

However, last evening, Uganda lost 3-1 to Ivory Coast and failed to qualify for the knockout stages once again. This was Uganda Cranes’ sixth CHAN tournament

The Cranes, who were top of Group B with four points before the final game, only needed to avoid defeat in Sunday’s thriller against Ivory Coast.

The team’s performance evoked Ugandans to criticize head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic for his defensive tactics and blamed them for the side’s poor performance.

A one Abdul Wasike said: “A good coach needs to be able to build a good team, a team with solid principles, clear mechanisms, and cohesion, regardless of the innate quality of his players. Coach Micho’s old-school tactics don’t give me that impression. Uganda Cranes is good… Only needs a good coach.”

Journalist Stephen Birimunda slammed Micho and called for his dismissal.

“So FUFA’s favorite “technical-tactical Micho” can not get us out of a group of three African-local coaches? Honestly, Uganda is reaping sour fruits from an overstayed-visionless football office! Resignation should shd start from the head! The Ugandan taxpayer deserves better,” posted Birimunda.

“Don’t tell me about patriotism as long as Micho is still coach, let the boys come back home and focus on the league,” said Geno Eric.

A one Nakibinge Brian also has no kind words for Micho.

“Micho is just training players to run behind the ball. No clear philosophy or style of play per se. His comeback was never a good thing for our team. Much as @MosesMagogo you and your administration have garnered resources for FUFA, we are lacking in that department,” he said.
