Uganda Cranes can breathe again. It can feel its fingers and toes again too, as a 1-0 win over Tanzania at Benjamin Mkapa stadium this evening has the Cranes’ AFCON 2023 qualifying campaign back on track.

It’s a win that is most welcome for the players and head coach Micho.

Following last week’s 1-0 loss against Tanzania, the Cranes had to win the reverse to be able to get the qualification campaign back on the rail.

However, before Roger Mato’s winning goal in the 92nd minute, Micho’s side looked to be regressing, rather than getting stronger.

But Mato’s cool finish from Farouk Miya’s well-weighed through pass has got the team dreaming again.

The Cranes are now on the same points (four) as Tanzania. Algeria, which has already qualified leads Group F with 12 points. Niger now seats rock bottom with two points.

Uganda now has to play Algeria at home and Niger away while Tanzania play Niger at home and Algeria away.
