Police in Kassanda district are investigating the death of Alex Kitiyo, a Police Constable attached to Makokoto Police Post, who tragically turned the gun on himself.

According to Racheal Kawala, the spokesperson for the Wamala Region Police, the incident occurred around 5:00am at the Makokota trading center.

Kawala explained that Kitiyo abruptly woke up and, without uttering a word, directed his weapon towards his superior, Inspector of Police John Kakooza’s room. He fired multiple shots before tragically taking his own life.

Kawala revealed that the Police are currently treating the case as an attempted murder and suicide.

This unfortunate event marks the third shooting incident to transpire within a week. Two prior instances involved outbursts of anger from a police officer in Mbarara district and a Saracen security guard in Tororo Municipality.

The third shooting occurred in Mukono Municipality, where a police officer mistakenly targeted an individual due to a case of mistaken identity.

Earlier this week, Police spokesperson Fred Enanga emphasized that investigations thus far suggest these shootings were not orchestrated acts of organized crime or targeted assaults on any specific community. Instead, they appear to be isolated incidents stemming from minor disputes and disagreements, according to Enanga.
