Former Rubaga South Member of Parliament, Kato Lubwama, has passed away. Lubwama died in the early hours of Wednesday morning at Stana Medical Centre in Bunamwaya at the age of 52.

According to reports, Lubwama succumbed to complications arising from a long-standing heart condition.

Lubwama initially gained prominence in the 1990s as an actor and playwright. He played a pivotal role in reviving the art of theater in Uganda, co-founding Diamonds Ensemble and contributing to the resurgence of theater companies.

In the 2000s, as interest in theater declined, Lubwama transitioned to FM radio, where he achieved considerable fame through his work on the CBS FM Kalisoliso program. Collaborating with fellow actors Abby Mukiibi and Patricko Mujjuka, their show became one of the most popular morning shows in Uganda. Lubwama’s on-air persona was known as Bisso.

In a surprising turn of events, Lubwama entered the political arena and was elected as the Member of Parliament for Rubaga South in 2016.

However, he gained notoriety for his remark about his lack of participation in parliament, stating, “I came to eat.” This comment implied that his decision to seek a parliamentary seat was driven by personal business interests rather than a commitment to serving his constituents.

Following his tenure in parliament, Lubwama focused on re-establishing himself in the entertainment industry. He founded B24 TV and launched a YouTube channel.

Kato Lubwama’s death marks the end of a multi-faceted career that spanned acting, playwriting, radio, politics, and media entrepreneurship. His contributions to Ugandan entertainment and theater will be remembered.
