Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) President, Moses Magogo, has come to the defense of Uganda Cranes Head Coach, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic, emphasizing that slumps in football are part of the natural course of the game.

During his weekly show on FUFA FM, Magogo expressed that while Micho, like any other coach, has his weaknesses, the current slump cannot be solely attributed to him.

“Before we lay blame on the coach, let us assess the young talents we have provided him with. I have consistently emphasized that our national team will face numerous challenges on its journey to delivering the style of play and results we aspire to,” explained Magogo.

However, he clarified that he is not content with the team’s current outcomes.

“I am not satisfied with the results the team is achieving,” he stated.

Magogo added, “Every team experiences ups and downs, makes mistakes, reaches peaks, and goes through exciting moments, wins trophies, and encounters slumps.”

He urged fans to endure the present slump, acknowledging that football enthusiasts always desire their team to emerge victorious.

“We all share a love for the Uganda Cranes, and it is unfair for certain individuals to believe they support the team more than others. They perceive themselves as greater supporters than those within the federation, whom they label as individuals opposing the team’s qualification,” he remarked.

With one remaining match in the ongoing 2023 AFCON qualifiers, the Uganda Cranes face a challenging path to keep their dreams of participating in AFCON 2023 alive. Their final encounter against Niger is a must-win situation, while they anxiously await the outcome of the Tanzania-Algeria clash, hoping for a favourable result that can turn their fortunes around.

Magogo remains optimistic about the team’s qualification chances.

“Among the teams in our group, only Algeria has secured a spot in AFCON 2023, and Niger has no chance. We still have an opportunity to qualify for the final tournament in Cote d’Ivoire,” he affirmed.
