Uganda Cranes have been placed in Group G of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers for Africa with Algeria and Guinea in the draws conducted on Thursday on the sidelines of the 45th CAF Congress in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

Completing the formidable group are Mozambique, Botswana, and Somalia, ensuring an intense battle for qualification to the tournament.

A total of 54 countries have been drawn into nine groups, each featuring six teams.

Securing the top spot in the group will grant direct qualification to the World Cup, while the four best group runners-up will engage in playoffs to determine which team will advance to the inter-confederation playoffs.

Excitingly, the 2026 FIFA World Cup will witness an expansion of participating teams from 32 to 48, leading to an increase in the number of teams from CAF (Africa) from 5 to 9 or possibly 10, depending on the outcome of the intercontinental playoffs. Cranes’ journey in Group G presents an opportunity to showcase its talent on the global stage and secure its place among the continent’s representatives in the expanded tournament.
