A 24-year-old man in Mbale has put his kidney up for sale to raise money and lessen his financial constraints.

Abdul Azizi Wandulu made this unusual plea to Uganda Martyrs University lecturer Jimmy Spire Ssentongo.

“Hello Spire, help me advertise my kidney for sale to whoever is willing so I can settle my financial constraints. I am a Ugandan living in Mbale aged 24,” Wandulu’s tweet read.

The tweet has attracted mixed reactions, with many expressing concern and offering alternative solutions to Wandulu’s predicament.

One user, Remy, said, “No matter the financial constraints one might face, it’s important to recognize that our healthy bodies are the only vessels through which we can experience and enjoy the good life we anticipate. Money won’t mean a thing when your health is compromised.”

@AbrahamicMen suggested, “Instead of selling your kidneys, come to Kobil in Kawempe, and I’ll teach you phone repair for free.”

@mugume_felix sarcastically remarked, “The problem is that we don’t know the actual cost of these organs on the market; otherwise, I’d put mine on public auction too.”

Meanwhile, the Uganda Human Organ Donation and Transplant law prohibits any commercial dealings in human organs and tissues. Punishments include life imprisonment and heavy fines.

This law was passed following numerous cases of Ugandan women being recruited for domestic work in the Middle East, only to be deceived into undergoing medical procedures, after which their kidneys were sold.
