The Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) released the 2023 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Examination (UACE) results this morning.

A total of 110,553 candidates registered for the 2023 UACE examination from 2,102 centres compared to 97,890 candidates from 1,969 centres in 2022. This is an increase of 12,663 candidates (12.9%).

Of these, 47,226 (42.7%) were females and 63,339 (57.3%) were males. Candidates who appeared for the examination were 109,488, compared to 96,557 in 2022, an increase of 12,931 candidates (13.4%). Of these, 46,860 (42.8%) were females and 62,628 (57.2%) were males.

The results indicate that 80,643 candidates (73.7%) of the 109,488 candidates who sat for the exams have attained the two principal passes that qualify them for progression to the university.

“University admissions to degree courses have, up to date, been considering two Principal level passes as the minimum requirement. If this consideration is maintained, 73.7% qualify to be admitted, compared to 70.3% in 2022,” said Dan Odongo, the UNEB Executive Director.

Dan Odongo, the UNEB Executive Director.

Odongo also noted that despite female candidates being fewer in number at this level than male candidates, they performed better than their male counterparts.

When it comes to the 34 students/inmates (30 males and 4 females) who registered at Luzira Upper Prison, they all qualified for the award of the UACE certificate.

UNEB noted that the number of candidates registering and appearing for Mathematics and the Sciences is gradually increasing, with Mathematics showing the greatest promise.

Meanwhile, candidates, their parents, and any other person wishing to access results may do so through their mobile phones. Go to the ‘Message’ menu and type UACE, leave a space, and type the correct index number of the candidate; e.g., U0000/001. Send to 6600.
