Kira Road Police have arrested a woman named Nanteza Joan for allegedly being behind the theft of laptops and iPads from hotels during workshops.

The suspect was apprehended at one of the conference halls at Kabira County Club, where she entered the premises and pretended to be a participant in a workshop organized by ACODE.

According to the police, she registered herself as Abuje Sharon, a name not on the participants list.

“The suspect is part of a group of thieves who target organized workshops and conferences at different hotels, stealing from attendees or alerting their accomplices about potential targets,” said the police.

The suspects target smartphones, bags, iPads, and laptops during break time, photo sessions, and at the closure of workshops.

The police stated that upon interrogation, the suspect claimed she was a student of Environmental Studies, Evening classes at Makerere University, which was found to be false.

“It was further established that on January 29, 2024, the suspect attended a workshop at Riders Hotel in Seeta under different names and stole a Samsung Tablet with an installed Health Information System Program. It was recovered from her,” said the police before commending the security team at Kabira Country Club for their vigilance.
