Serena 63 Golf Series back for Season 2 with I&M Bank as lead sponsor

The Serena 63 Golf Series is back for yet another exciting season. The announcement was made by I&M Bank and Serena Hotels at a press briefing held at the tee box of hole no. 10 at the Serena Golf Resort and Spa in Kigo earlier today.

Scheduled to span over a 32-week period, the highly anticipated tournament that shall commence on May 25, invites golf enthusiasts to play at least a minimum of 24 X 18-hole rounds of golf to qualify for the main prizes.

Held at the prestigious Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa, renowned for its picturesque 18-hole course, nestled along the shores of Lake Victoria, the tournament promises an unforgettable experience for players and fans alike.

Speaking to journalists at the press briefing, Annette Nakiyaga, the Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs at I&M Bank Uganda, expressed enthusiasm for the tournament’s growth and its alignment with the bank’s vision

“At I&M Bank Uganda, our vision is centred on creating shared value for our stakeholders, including avid golf enthusiasts. Our longstanding support for the game of golf underscores our belief in its ability to mirror the bank’s success. Through strategic partnerships like the Serena 63 Golf series, we aim to continue our legacy of promoting the sport across the region,” remarked Nakiyaga.

Nakiyaga also reaffirmed the bank’s unwavering commitment towards the game of golf, and the tournament’s success.

“Our dedication to the growth of golf in Uganda remains steadfast. Having partnered with Serena Hotels last year, we are thrilled to extend our support for yet another season of the Serena 63 golf series. This season holds extra significance for us as I&M Bank as we are commemorate our Golden Jubilee. That’s why we are opening up the tournament to all golfers, as a gesture of gratitude to the golfers because we want to celebrate this with the people who have supported us over the years,” she added

In addition to the allure of the tournament itself, I&M Bank Uganda is proud to offer exclusive opportunities for top-performing golfers. Notably, the bank will extend invitations to five winners to participate in the prestigious I&M Invitational Golf Tournament in Kenya.

Theodor Van Rooyen, Director of Lake Victoria Serena Golf emphasised that the tournament is open to all golfers in the country and beyond. He also reiterated the significance of the tournament’s name highlighting its association with the course record of 63 set by Dizmas Ndiza in 2019

“The Serena 63 series pays homage to the remarkable course record of 63 set by Dizmas Ndiza. To commemorate this achievement, various aspects of the tournament, from entry fees to accommodation rates, will reflect the number 63,” Van Rooyen said

“It is also important to note that the tournament is open to all golfers regardless of their mother clubs and we are extending a standard fee of 40 dollars per round for weekdays and weekends for all participants throughout the year,” he added.

Duncan Lewa, the newly appointed General Manager of Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa echoed Van Rooyen emphasising that the hotel is more than ready to host golfers throughout the series

” We are more than ready to welcome golfers throughout the series. Our commitment extends beyond mere accommodation; we’ve curated a special experience with discounted rates for both single and double occupancy rooms at $163, we invite golfers to linger and savor every moment of their stay,” he said.

Throughout the tournament, golfers will vie for coveted prizes, including one-year membership at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa, quarterly prizes based on the order of merit, and themed prizes to excitement to the competition. The overall winners will be announced on November 30, 2024.

The first edition of the Serena 63 series is slated for May 25.
