A medical officer at Mulago Hospital, Dr. Joseph Mubiru, who led the health service team at the Namugongo shrines, has revealed that food poisoning, stomach disorders, eye infections, and high blood pressure were among the most frequently recorded cases during this year’s martyrs’ celebrations, which climaxed on Monday.

According to Dr. Mubiru, during the past week that they camped at the Namugongo shrines, their team treated over 160 pilgrims for food poisoning, stomach disorders, eye infections, and high blood pressure.

Dr. Mubiru also mentioned that fainting was another common health issue, with more than 30 pilgrims fainting due to overcrowding and excessive sunshine. He, however, stated that their team managed to stabilize them before transferring them to Mulago Hospital for further treatment.

Mubiru praised the National Medical Stores (NMS) for providing sufficient medical supplies, which enabled them to attend to over 1,000 pilgrims who required medical attention.

This support allowed them to handle most of the cases within their tents and at Angelina Health Facility, which is near the Catholic Shrine.
