The Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs has declined the National Unity Platform (NUP) party’s request to hold its anniversary celebrations at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

In a letter dated July 16, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Kallu Sam, acknowledged receiving NUP’s letter requesting use of the venue.

However, he stated that permission would not be granted due to ongoing infrastructural developments.

Earlier this month, NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya wrote to the ministry requesting permission to host their 4-year anniversary, citing a large expected turnout.

Rubongoya emphasized the party’s flexibility regarding the event date, willing to postpone it until the end of August 2024 if necessary.

Nevertheless, the ministry’s letter urged them to seek an alternative venue.

Commenting on the development, NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi said, “The authorities responsible for the venue only give permission to events that are pro-government. The public grounds are only available for use by everyone who worships Gen. Museveni and his regime.”
