A Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier, Pte David Wabule, attached to the 45 Infantry Battalion, shot himself dead after failing to kill his concubine, Lucky Auma, and her lover.

According to preliminary reports, Wabule travelled to Kaabong town from Longoromit Battalion headquarters with colleague Pte Gerald Ngabirano Akampulira on Sunday.

Later, Wabule found Akampulira with Auma at Korimong Guesthouse, where she works, sparking a quarrel.

During the altercation, Wabule forcibly took Akampulira’s phone and returned to the detachment, then came back armed with an AK-47 rifle. He fired indiscriminately, missing Auma and Akampulira before turning the weapon on himself.

Kaabong district police commander Yudaya Mugoya confirmed Auma and two UPDF soldiers are in custody to aid the investigation.
