The SMACK League reached its climax over the weekend, with Alks emerging champions after a hard-fought battle against the Knights.

The Guinness sponsored league concluded with a dramatic goal from a throw-in during the closing minutes, which saw Alks seal a 1-0 win and claiming the coveted Champion’s Shield.

While Alks lifted the ultimate prize, the Founder’s Cup final was another spectacle, as the Cyclones triumphed over the Kiama Warriors. Derrick Mbowa delivered the decisive goal, handing the Cyclones a 2-0 victory and a well-deserved title.

Beyond the intense matches, the SMACK League also celebrated excellence by recognising outstanding players and teams. The league presented Certificates of Excellence in various categories, including the Top Scorer (Junior Nabongho of Knights), Best Coach (Ricky Mudali of Vikings, Best female Player (Kitali Sharifah of Kiama), Best Online Team (Pirates), and more.

Reflecting on the league’s journey since its kick-off in July 2024, SMACK League Chairman Bernard Mukasa expressed his pride in the tournament’s success. “This league has been nothing short of phenomenal. We have witnessed great talent, unity, and sportsmanship. It’s incredible to see how football continues to bring people together and the impact that we have had on the people who choose to be a part of this experience.”

Echoing Mukasa’s sentiments, Mercy Atwongeirwe, Project Manager at UBL, highlighted the impact of the league on the community. “SMACK League has become a celebration of not just football but friendship and togetherness. Seeing the passion on and off the pitch is truly inspiring.”

In another highlight, Premier League fans were treated to a Match Day Experience with live screenings on a giant screen thanks to Guiness the official beer of the world’s most watched league. Arsenal supporters were particularly thrilled, erupting in joy as they watched their team thrash Manchester City 5-1. The contagious energy further reinforced the sport’s power to unite people from all walks of life.

The celebrations carried on into the night with sensational performances by Elijah Kitaka and A Ka Dope Band, rounding off a perfect conclusion to an unforgettable season.

With the curtains now drawn on this edition of the SMACK League, fans and players alike are already looking forward to the next season, anticipating even greater moments of football magic.
