Kadiba Ground, a project overseen by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), is set to be officially opened on Saturday, May 31 during the Uganda Cup final between Vipers Sports Club and KCCA Football Club.

Originally scheduled for completion in 2023, the facility faced delays due to funding challenges. However, construction is now complete, and the stadium is ready to host its first match next week.

Situated in Mengo, Rubaga Division, on land donated by the Church of Uganda, Kadiba Ground has been developed as a premier training facility intended to serve both domestic and international tournaments. It will also host local football matches.

It is among the designated training venues for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) and the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The development of the ground was funded by FIFA, the world football governing body, which allocated $2.3 million to FUFA for the project in 2018.

In February this year, a delegation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), led by Director of Competitions Samson Adamu, inspected Uganda’s CHAN training facilities, including Kadiba Ground. The visit was part of a wider assessment of Uganda’s preparedness to host the tournament, which will primarily take place at Nelson Mandela National Stadium (Namboole).

Earlier, in January, CAF had announced the postponement of the 2025 CHAN tournament from February to August 2025, providing Uganda and its co-hosts with additional time to complete infrastructure upgrades.

With the Uganda Cup final set to take place at the newly completed ground, it presents an ideal opportunity to assess whether the long-awaited Kadiba project is ready to fulfill its intended role in supporting upcoming continental tournaments.
