Opportunity Bank Uganda has scooped nine out of sixteen major awards at the Bank of Uganda Agricultural Credit Facility (ACF) Awards, held last evening at the Sheraton Hotel in Kampala.

The event marked 15 years of the transformative ACF loan scheme, which has played a pivotal role in shaping Uganda’s agricultural finance landscape. The awards celebrated financial institutions that have gone above and beyond in advancing economic development through innovative and inclusive agricultural lending.

Opportunity Bank emerged as a standout performer, receiving recognition as the Overall Best Performing Financial Institution in the Credit Institutions and Microfinance Deposit-Taking Institutions category under ACF. It also secured awards for submitting the highest number of loan applications to the Bank of Uganda, disbursing the most loans to small borrowers (valued at UGX 100 million or less), and achieving the highest absorption rate by loan value disbursed under ACF.

Additionally, the bank was recognized as the Overall Best Performer in the Credit and Microfinance Deposit-Taking category under the Small Business Recovery Fund (SBRF), also recording the highest absorption rate by loan value disbursed in the same category. It was further honored for its widest outreach in underserved regions under ACF, the most loan applications submitted to the Bank of Uganda under SBRF, and named first runner-up for the highest number of loans disbursed in underserved regions under SBRF.

“We are incredibly honoured and humbled by this extensive recognition from the Bank of Uganda,” said Owen Amanya, CEO of Opportunity Bank Uganda. “These awards are more than trophies—they’re a powerful affirmation of our mission to champion agricultural finance and deepen financial inclusion across Uganda. They represent the tireless commitment of our team, the resilience of our customers, and the bold steps we’ve taken to transform lives and livelihoods.”

Reflecting on this achievement, Opportunity Bank reaffirmed its commitment to delivering accessible, inclusive, and transformative financial solutions throughout Uganda. From rural farmers to small business owners, the bank pledged to continue empowering communities and driving sustainable development across the country.
