Musician Ibrahim Mayanja, popularly known as Big Eye StarBoss, has declared strong confidence in his bid to secure the National Unity Platform (NUP) flag for the Nansana Municipality Member of Parliament seat.
Speaking to journalists shortly after returning his expression of interest forms from the NUP Electoral Committee at the party headquarters in Makerere-Kavule, the singer said, “I have a 90% chance of winning the NUP primaries and securing the party ticket.”
Big Eye cited his consistent presence on the ground and growing support from the community as the foundation of his confidence. “The people of Nansana believe in me. They know I am ready to serve and represent their interests in the next Parliament,” he added.
However, the race for the NUP ticket will not be an easy one. Big Eye is up against two formidable contenders: incumbent MP Wakayima Musoke, who is seeking re-election after completing his first term, and veteran journalist Zambali Mukasa, who recently left NBS TV to join active politics.
NUP, currently the leading opposition party in Uganda—particularly dominant in the Buganda region—will be holding its primaries next month. As the nomination process continues, several aspiring candidates are still picking and returning their forms in what promises to be a competitive internal race.
The outcome of the primaries will set the stage for a high-stakes general election in Nansana, one of the most politically vibrant constituencies in the country.
