Singer Ykee Benda is officially off the market, but the road to love with his now-fiancée Emily Nyawira wasn’t all roses — at least not at first.
Speaking in an interview, the Farmer hitmaker shared that Emily didn’t exactly swoon the first time they spoke. In fact, she negged him hard.
The two met at Vision Group in Kampala, where Ykee had gone for an interview. Emily, who had spotted him years earlier performing at Seeta High School while she was still a student, didn’t hold back.
“When I approached her for a chat, she hit me with, ‘You were looking ashy that day,’” Benda recalled with a laugh. “It triggered me a bit.”
Despite the rough start, sparks flew — slowly. The two kept in touch over the phone, and Emily took her time warming up to the chart-topper. It reportedly took four months before they got intimate.
Then came the COVID-19 lockdown, but love doesn’t quarantine — Ykee found a way to sneak out and meet her in Naalya, where he made his intentions known.
Emily gave him the green light, and the rest, as they say, is history.
What won Ykee over, he says, was Emily’s low-key lifestyle — no obsession with social media — and her strong Christian faith. “Those two things stood out to me. She’s grounded,” he shared.
Emily is not just beauty and grace but brains too. She attended Kampala Parents School, Seeta High, and Makerere University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree.
Last week, Ykee Benda sealed the deal with a proposal at Divine Resort. Under a massive, heart-shaped floral arch glowing with a neon sign that read “WILL YOU MARRY ME?”, the Mpaka Records boss dropped to one knee. Emily said yes — and the moment melted hearts across social media.
Though the proposal was a private affair, photos and videos quickly went viral, drawing in a wave of love from fans and fellow celebrities.
Congratulations poured in, with many praising Ykee’s romantic side and Emily’s graceful presence.
