Police have arrested a taxi driver involved in a viral TikTok video that showed a man riding on top of the vehicle’s roof while casually drinking alcohol. The footage sparked public concern and widespread criticism on social media.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the arrest followed complaints from members of the public, prompting authorities to trace and impound the taxi involved in the reckless stunt.

“The driver admitted that he was paid Shs20,000 by the TikToker to allow him to ride on the vehicle’s roof while recording the video,” Owoyesigyire said. “He has since been charged with carrying a passenger in a dangerous position.”

Although the driver is now in custody, police say the TikToker who appeared in the video has not yet been located. “Efforts to trace and arrest the passenger are ongoing,” Owoyesigyire added.

Police have urged the public to refrain from such dangerous acts, warning that similar behaviour will be met with strict legal action.
