To facilitate this skills transfer, MultiChoice Uganda will contribute towards various activities in the lead-up to and after the training as part of the partnership.

By supporting this initiative, MultiChoice Uganda is reinforcing its commitment to investing in and promoting local content. The beauty industry plays a vital role in showcasing Ugandan talent and creativity, particularly in bringing characters in Ugandan stories to life.

Speaking about the partnership, Colin Asiimwe, Head of Marketing at MultiChoice Uganda, emphasised the importance of mutually beneficial partnerships in improving the quality of local productions in Uganda.

“The local content industry in Uganda is currently undergoing a renaissance, and for this rebirth to continue on the right trajectory, we need to hold each other’s hands. Partnerships like the one we have with Sununu Effect Beauty Studio are important because they help in skilling and retooling an industry that has been very pivotal in our local content push on our platforms like Pearl Magic and Pearl Magic Prime,” Asiimwe said.

“The improvement in the quality of local productions that we are currently seeing requires us to enhance our skill levels to be competitive on an international scale. Until then, we shall continue to back initiatives such as this that are tailored to improving specific skills that will add to our arsenal of expertise to elevate the industry to the very top,” he added.

Brian Mulondo, Local Content Manager at MultiChoice Uganda, also weighed in on the ripple effect that supporting artistic expression has had on the local content industry in Uganda.

“Artistic expression is a crucial element in many local productions, and this is where the beauty and cosmetics industry plays a vital role. Through partnerships like this, we’re ensuring that makeup artists entering the industry are well-trained and ready to elevate local productions with their skills. We’re proud to have continuously supported the Ugandan beauty and cosmetics industry in the over 30 local shows we’ve commissioned as MultiChoice Uganda,” Mulondo said.

MultiChoice Uganda is heavily invested in local content production through M-Net, with channels like Pearl Magic Prime and Pearl Magic showcasing local stories such as Damalie, Sanyu, and Beloved. These productions rely on the beauty and cosmetics industry to ensure that talent looks the part for their roles.

Claret Ayebare, the founder of Sununu Effect Beauty Studio, expressed gratitude to MultiChoice Uganda for their efforts in nurturing local talent and the local beauty and cosmetics industry as a whole.

“I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to MultiChoice Uganda for their efforts in nurturing local talent and the beauty and cosmetics industry as a whole. Their partnership with us will enable us to improve this vital sector, which is crucial to the film industry. Through such collaborations, we can develop a skilled talent pool so that the film sector can tap into a well-trained lineup of professionals,” Ayebare emphasised.

The partnership is expected to be a springboard for future collaborations between MultiChoice and various sectors that contribute towards the promotion and development of local content in the Ugandan film industry.
