UNBS raids Sure Deal beauty center for illegally using institution’s quality mark

Uganda National Bureau of Standards market surveillance inspectors yesterday evening raided offices of first rising cosmetic shop Sure Deal Beauty Center in Kampala along Mini price streets and confiscated tonnes of cosmetics for illegally using the UNBS quality mark.

In the raid, the institution inspectors also confiscated cosmetics that contain mercury and hydroquinone.

In 2016, UNBS banned importation and selling of cosmetics that contained the above ingredients saying they have a number of side effects, including skin discoloration, mild burning, skin dryness and also damage inner organs such as the kidney and skin scaring.
