You have walked your shoes slim, trekked the dusty streets of Kampala or whatever town you’re in looking for a job left, right, and centre but to no end, is it time you tried working ‘outside countries?’
In a country crippled by a high rate of unemployment, many companies have come out to provide Ugandans with alternatives by offering jobs abroad.
According to Hajji Muyomba Wahab, the Managing Director of Alasker International Limited – a job recruitment company in Kampala, his company focuses on the Middle East because there are plenty of jobs ready whose salary structure is acceptable to most Ugandans.
“Currently, we have opportunities for drivers, cleaners, security officers and house helps (maids). We process everything for house helps free of charge, but other job offers require some small payment,” Muyomba said.
When asked about safety and job security of Ugandans taken by his company to the Middle East, Muyomba said that all their clients go through job training, and personal safety precautions adding that discipline and obedience are also crucial to having a good working relationship with one’s bosses.
A survey carried out by Bank of Uganda showed that Uganda’s labour export sector earned close to $1.2b in 2017 alone. The survey also said that remittances from the Middle East accounted for over 25% of that, coming second to Europe.
Hajji Muyomba attributed this to competitive salaries paid to Ugandans in the Middle East.
“Look at us for instance, security officials that go through our company are paid Shs2.2m, drivers get Shs2m and housemaids Shs900,000. All this is paid monthly, and our contracts usually run for two years. Tell me, who can pay you that much in Uganda?” He asked.
Muyomba’s Alasker International Limited has ties in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar among other countries. They are registered and licensed by the Ministry of Gender under number E1804232 with an active, renewable license running until April 20, 2020.
