Chinese industrial park opened in Mbale, to create 15,000 jobs

The Sino – Uganda Mbale Industrial Park, a massive Industrial Park has officially opened in Mbale.

The park sitting on 619-acres of land was developed by Tian Tang Group, a Chinese company based in Uganda and will start operations by the end of this year.

According to Shawn Lee, the Deputy General Manager of the Sino – Uganda Mbale Industrial Park, the park is set to create an additional 2,000 jobs. Over 600 people are already employed in the park at the moment.

He noted that currently, there are three factories that are starting the production of lighting, bulbs, washing powder, wires and cables. The factories include Pearl Light technology Limited, Ubon Technology and Victoria Cable limited.

Michael Werikhe, State Minister for Trade who represented President Yoweri Museveni at the official opening said the park creates a big milestone for Eastern Uganda.

“These companies are going to work with us so that we train our young people, both men and women to ensure that we complement their creation of jobs,” he explained.

He added that the government is drafting a new policy requiring investors to purchase raw materials in areas where the companies are located as it moves to ensure that local materials and labour force are prioritised.
