Crane Management Services, the biggest real-estate management company in downtown Kampala has distanced itself from a fake demand notice making rounds on various social media purportedly demanding April rent from tenants.

Business is on a standstill amidst the covid-19 pandemic. With stay-home advisories and a ban on public transport, the general trading business is one of the sectors that had taken a hit.

The fake notice making rounds on social media reads; “We hope you are paying Rent for April. Late payments may force us to send you Auctioneers After 5th April 20 you may be charged 10% for late payment. Hurry”

CMS has rubbished the notice. “This document is FAKE, it is not addressed to any of our tenants as it bares No name addressed to, No property and No shop number,” an official statement from CMS reads.

“Our Management is busy discussing our next actions to help underprivileged Ugandans fight the virus. At the right time we shall communicate to our Tenants on the way forward and shall consider those that are directly affected by the hazards of the current crisis,” the statement reads.

The Ruparelia Group through their foundation also distanced themselves from any political inclinations saying their charitable actions amid the coronavirus pandemic are entirely on humanitarian grounds.

The group donated hygiene kits through Cedric Babu, a Kampala Central MP aspirant and the incumbent Mohammed Nsereko has politicised the issue.

“Our foundation supported the under privileged with hygiene kits but unfortunately cheap politics finds its way. Consideration was for people in need.”
