INTERVIEW: Meet the distiller of B4 flavored gin

A fortnight ago, a new locally blended product B4 flavored gin was launched on the Ugandan market. Distilled and distributed by KB4 distilleries limited Kawempe it’s safe to say it’s a product one should try out. It comes in 200ml so far and a carton has 24 bottles.

Matooke Republic caught up with Job Kigozi, one of the brains behind the product for an exclusive insight about the product.

How would you explain B4 Gin to a stranger?

B4 is a new brand on the market. Its a smooth gin that has a good taste and does not give hangover. It also gives appetite to those who don’t like to eat food after taking alcohol. Its a brand we recommend for every client.

Who are the target customers?

Our target customers should be every Ugandan, East African and African especially the ‘Muntu wawansi’.

Briefly tell us what made you consider joining the brewing business?

We sat as a team and looked for where to invest and make Ugandans happy.

What does someone need to start a brewing a product like B4?

It depends but you need to have the equipment authorized by UNBS and they can always guide you on what to do.

Many people think most locally made alcohol beverages don’t follow due process and lack effective quality control systems; Is B4 authentic?

With B4, its an authentic product authorized by UNBS. We follow the URA protocols

Is your product purely a Ugandan product? What ingredients do you use and where do you get them?

It is purely a local blended gin. We use neutral spirit that we get from Lugazi or Kakira and distilled water and other flavours from authorized agents like Afribon.

What’s that one thing that makes your product stand out from other gins?

The scent is unique as its very good. The pricing is also affordable (Shs1500). The smoothness is also unmatched. It also gives no hangover and to many it gives appetite.

How’s the market so far? Do you see some hope for the brand to succeed?

Its picking, people are appreciating the innovation. The highlight of the future in bright.

With Covid here for almost two years now, unemployment rates have shot through the roof; how many people are you employing or does your business hope to employ?

When the situation stablises, we shall employ as many Ugandans as possible, we can’t limit. At the moment we have 25 people working with us.

Alcohol can be hazardous when abused, what plans do you have for your clients to ensure your product is not a danger to the consumer?

Already on our bottles we have ‘Not for Sale for Persons under 18 and Excessive consumption is bad for your health’. We also urge our retailers not to sale to under age person.

Also as part of our coporate social responsibilities, we shall engage the youth in various campaigns and offer advise.
