Finance ministry permanent secretary Ramathan Ggoobi has urged Ugandans to massively embrace COVID-19 vaccination so that the economy can be fully reopened.

In his last nation address, President Yoweri Museveni said the economy will be fully reopened in January 2022 whether people get vaccinated or not.

He however said that they target to vaccinate 12 people by end of December since vaccines are now available.

According to Ggoobi, the country is losing a lot of revenue due to the continued closure of the night economy. Bars and events have been closed since March 2020.

“We are losing a lot of revenue in closing the night economy. Without re-opening the night economy, we shall struggle to recover the economy,” said Ggoobi.
