President Kagame welcomes StarTimes as it launches in Rwanda

On the afternoon of 28 July, President Kagame of Rwanda, received Pang Xinxing, Chairman of StarTimes Group.

During the meeting, Chairman Pang first thanked the Rwandan government and President Kagame for the support and help given to StarTimes. Then he introduced the development situation of StarTimes Group and StarTimes Rwanda, also mentioned that the latest StarTimes Inside digital TV set has been launched to the Rwandan market, which is built-in with the latest R&D technology of StarTimes and has obvious advantages over the previous products.

In the first half of next year, StarTimes will again launch smart TV sets with built-in new technology to provide Rwandan people with a better digital TV experience. Chairman Pang said that StarTimes is willing to help to accelerate the popularisation of digital TV and make greater contribution to promoting the progress of digital TV in Rwanda.

President Kagame expressed his pleasure to meet with StarTimes again. He fully affirmed the development and achievements of StarTimes, and highly appreciated the high-tech products of StarTimes. He said that StarTimes can completely trust the Rwandan government, and they will strongly support the business development of StarTimes in Rwanda.

Ingabire Paula, Minister of ICT and Innovation, Nelly Mukazayire, Deputy CEO of RDB, Wang Fan, CEO of StarTimes Rwanda, Meng Li, General Manager of StarTimes Media Company participated the meeting.

Rwanda is the starting point of StarTimes’ business in Africa. In 2007, after many efforts, StarTimes obtained the digital TV operation license issued by the Rwandan government, which is also the first operation license that StarTimes obtained in Africa.

In the following year, StarTimes officially started its operation in Rwanda, and quickly attracted a large number of users with its affordable prices and high-quality services. The good start of StarTimes’ business in Rwanda has also become an important starting point for the rapid expansion of its layout in Africa.

Today, StarTimes has become a media group registered and established company in more than 30 countries in Africa, engaging in digital TV and Internet video business operations, serving more than 40 million digital TV users and mobile end users.
