Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) has announced that the highly coveted Diageo 2025 Special Releases Scotch Whisky Collection, dubbed ‘Horizons Unbound,’ has officially arrived in Uganda.

This globally celebrated limited-edition line-up lands just in time for the festive season, offering collectors and whisky lovers some of the rarest bottles they will ever own.

Curated under the guidance of Master Blender Dr Stuart Morrison, this year’s collection is crafted to captivate two kinds of whisky lovers- those who relish discovery, innovation and craftsmanship, and those drawn to rich storytelling, sensorial experiences, and the joy of sharing something rare. Whether the appeal lies in the technical mastery of a distillery-first experiment, or the emotion sparked by a finish that introduces new and surprising flavour contrasts, the Horizons Unbound collection offers a whisky to match every kind of curiosity.

Speaking about the arrival of the collection in Uganda, Robert Nsibirwa, the Marketing Manager International Premium Spirits at UBL, highlighted that the 2025 Special Releases are on high demand- globally, and expressed delight that Uganda managed to secure an extremely limited allocation as a market.

“Uganda has received five of the rare expressions, a true testament to the exclusivity and the prestige of this collection. Each bottle is a once-in-a-lifetime release that will never be produced again, making them some of the most collectable whiskies available anywhere in the world this year. For consumers searching for a remarkable festive gift or a standout addition to their collection, nothing compares to a bottle from Horizons Unbound.”

The special releases that arrived in Uganda include- The Singleton of Glen Ord 17-Year-Old ‘Into the Blue’, finished in ex-Mezcal and second-fill ex-Sherry casks for layers of bold spice and fruity richness. Talisker 14-Year-Old ‘Molten Seas’, a first-of-its-kind experiment from the Isle of Skye’s oldest single-malt distillery, matured in volcanic rock-toasted American oak casks, for robust maritime smokiness and hints of charred oak; Lagavulin 12-Year-Old ‘Grain & Embers’, an Islay classic with a rich bakery-smoke character drawn from Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks; Oban 12-Year-Old ‘Heart of the Harbour’, matured in ex-Bourbon American oak casks with notes of creamy toffee, fresh citrus and a whisper of sea breeze.

And then the Clynelish 18-Year-Old ‘Waxen Sun;’ a tropical-waxy delight crafted using an early ‘Pineapple Cut’ distillation technique for sun-drenched layers of ripe pineapple, honeyed malt and a smooth, silky finish.

Simon Lapyem– the Brand Manager Singleton East Africa, emphasized that the Special Releases are a signal that Uganda’s whisky community continues to grow in sophistication, and that this collection is the perfect opportunity for them to experience something truly world-class.

“Special Releases are a once-a-year opportunity for whisky lovers to own something truly rare. Each edition is crafted in limited quantities, never to be repeated, which is why collectors look forward to them so eagerly. The Singleton ‘Into the Blue’ 17-Year-Old is one of the standout expressions of this release. The ex-mezcal finish introduces bold, surprising layers that will thrill both loyal Singleton drinkers and adventurous explorers.”

Lapyem added that beyond that rarity, these whiskies make unforgettable gifts; “whether you’re celebrating a milestone, or simply sharing the joy of the season, a Special Release tells someone that they are deserving of something exceptional, something they can enjoy now, or treasure for years to come.”

The Diageo Special Releases have become a sought-after annual tradition for collectors and enthusiasts. Known for their limited runs, pioneering cask experiments and iconic storytelling, these whiskies often sell out quickly and become prized additions to collections around the world.

The Horizons Unbound collection will be available in extremely limited quantities at select premium outlets, luxury retail partners, and UBL’s exclusive distribution channels (Glovo) starting this Friday- November 21.

With the festive season approaching, these bottles stand out as exceptional gifting options, rare, intricate, and never to be re-created again.
