Bobi was fast losing his position among the big three musicians (Chameleone, Bebe Cool and Bobi Wine) as he had failed to land a mega hit in the past three years. The “little boys” like Radio and Weasel were turning him into a spectator in the music game.

It seems he had concentrated on  agriculture (cultivating an illicit herb) at his home in Gayaza and smoking it at his Busabala beach. What else would explain expletives like calling a certain minister’s son (Bebe Cool) human waste in Mr Katala.

However, with Kiggwa Leero, featuring his side-kick, the mellow voiced Nubian Li, he has released one of the contenders for the top songs of 2015 in this wedding day song.

Nubian Li lent his mellow voice to another of Bobi Wine's songs.

He is back to the Bobi Wine of 2006 when he scooped the Best Artiste gong in the Pam Awards to 2008, when he used to release dance-able, love-able, simple love jams like Ono Omwana Ayagala Mulaasi and Singa.

In the past, Bobi was singing about how his lover chose him despite being a broke lad, but on this one, he sings about the love most Ugandan women “sente wezili” (money is available). And we know he is now financially solid.

“Njagala nkugulile yo Benz oba Beema (I want to buy you a Benz or a Beema).

Njagala nkuzibile enyumba eya kalina (I want to build you a storied house).

Nkutwale ko kulyato ku marina … To take you on yacht at the marina.”

Bobi Wine’s music can be classified into four groups:

1) Melodious Afro beat love jams like Singa and Adam Ne Kawa.

2) Socially conscious music for his ghetto people like Ebibuuzo and Tugambire Ku Jennifer in his capacity as the Ghetto President.

3) Goofy dancehall tunes talking about his love for weed , while sketching Patios with lyrics like Dema Kankana when dem see me!

4) Anti-Bebe Cool songs like Mr Kataala.

But the Bobi Wine that has been loved by most Ugandan music lovers is the guy doing simple love songs on a dance-able Afro Beat track, with a fusion of dancehall, with simple easy to sing along to lyrics and that is what he delivers on Kiggwa Leero.

What is Trace or Channel O?

While the likes of Radio and Weasel, Navio, and of recent Kenzo, Bebe Cool and Chameleone are spending thousands of dollars shooting high budget videos to play on Trace TV and Channel O to compete with the Nigerians, for Bobi Wine, it is better to be LC 1 Chairman than an MP, so he is sticking to his “homemade” videos.

Kim XP who has worked on many of his videos is also behind Kiggwa Leero and it is a simple single location shoot with Bobi Wine and Nubian Lee not changing attires, plus a bunch of extras and video vixens. It is a video that Bukedde TV and NTV will welcome with both hands, so he is not bothered about “going international.” He tried going international by going to Jamaica to do a few collabos with Mr G, only to realise it is another banana republic.

But what we can bet on is that this one is another hit.
