When was the last time you heard about Clever J?
If you attended the Hipipo Music Awards at Wonderworld in Kansanga on Saturday, then it was the last time you heard about him.
But if you didn’t attend the show, then it must be a decade ago.
The singer who was famous for his Manzi Wanani and Nsi Yaleta hits in 2006.
He was involved in an identity feud with his cousin Jose Chameleone as many people said he sang just like Chameleone.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t stay as long as Chameleone on the music scene and he was as good as musical history by 2009.
Of recent he has only been making money in Arua and South Sudan where he still has a following.
But on Saturday, he was “resurrected” by the organisers of the Hipipo Awards who put him on the performance roster.
He worked the crowd with his Manzi Wanane and Nsi Yalete hits, but even as the organisers tried to bring him back on the scene, Clever J’s wardrobe was clearly stuck in the past. He still had his white and black cornrows and was wearing baggy jeans (in this era of skinny jeans) with a heavy buckle belt that had a Jamaican flag.
