Moses Nakintije Ssekibogo popularly knows Mowzey Radio would today be celebrating his 36 birthday. With his legacy being an inspiration to many, we take a look at how it all started.

Mowzey studied at Holy Cross Lake View Secondary School in Jinja where he served as President of the school’s Youth Alive Club. He composed musical projects for the Club that succeeded in inter-school Youth Alive Club competitions.

While working as Chameleone’s back-up vocalist, Radio released solos on Leone Island Records. These include “Jennifer”, “Dagala”, “Wololo” and “Sweet Lady”. Sweet Lady was well received, although Radio’s public profile remained low.

Radio then met Douglas Mayanja commonly known as Weasel who was also under his elder brother’s records, Leone Island. Radio and Weasel became back-up vocalists for Chameleone but later broke off from the label in 2008 to form the Goodlyfe Crew.

The duo hit Ugandan airwaves by storm after releasing “Nakudata” in 2008 featuring Omulangira Ssuna. The youthful duo cruised themselves to the top with more back to back hits like; Lwaki Onumya, Zuena, Nyambura, Bread and Butter, Ngenda Maaso, Talk and Talk, Tonjagala, Fantastic, Obudde and Amaaso Ntunga among others.

With such remarkable consistence in the music industry, the duo was also internationally recognised as they scooped beyond boarder nominations which included; 2010 Tanzania music awards – Best East African Song (‘Bread and Butter’) & (‘Where you are’ with Blu*3), MTV Africa Music Awards 2010 – Best Group, 2011 Tanzania Music Awards – Best East African Song (‘Vuvuzela’),  2013 BET Music Awards – Best International Act Africa, MTV Africa Music Awards 2014 – Best Collaboration (“Kiboko Changu” – Amani featuring Radio and Weasel).

May Radio’s soul rest in peace.
