Golfers take a light moment shortly before the prize giving at the 18th hole

On Saturday, over 128 golfers took to the lush green of the Entebbe golf club in a bid to secure themselves a slot in the second round of the Singleton Challenge- only 64 golfers made it.

The golfers took to the course by 8am in anticipation of an action-packed day on the greens and the Challenge played on a four ball better format did not disappoint.

Defending champions Peace Kabasweka, and Sheilla Kesiime beat the pair of Edwin Tabaro, and Ivan Wesonga 5/4.

Meanwhile, last season’s finalists, Joseph Bagabo and Paul Kaheru were eliminated by Greg Patterson, and Josef Salan in a 4/3 tight win. Gilbert Kiiza won the men’s category  with 39 points while Eva Magala took over the ladies category with 33 points.

After an exhausting day on the course, the golfers retreated to yet another rousing 19th hole experience as has become the Challenge’s tradition, and this time it was an experience which featured a performance by Janzi Band.

Riding on the day’s retro theme, the band sent guests back to the good old days that saw many golfers singing along in unison.

The grand prize for the winning pair this year is a fully paid golfing trip to watch the OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic, a series which has featured some of golf’s best players, including Tiger Woods and Henrik Stenson.

There will also be business class return air tickets for the first and second runner-up pairs, as well as winners of the subsidiary events in the men’s and ladies’ categories. Other prizes include monthly subscription packages on DStv, treats at Serena Hotel, golf accessories and HTC goodies.
