Ugandan Soul, blues and jazz singer/songwriter who has crafted the art of combining soft soulful and playful lyrism surprised her fans with her first ever reggae music album. When asked during her album listening party why she chose to do reggae, Evon said that she travels musically and reggae is about evolution.
“My first album ‘Lullabies For A Lion’ was a personal tale about me facing my fears and overcoming insecurities as a young African woman. ‘New me now’ is about me finding the answers to those fears and reggae is about being free,” she said.
Evon’s music career begun in 2004 when she was solely selected as Uganda’s first and only representative to Africa’s first ever talent show, Project Fame that was held in South Africa.
Known for gracefully challenging herself and with a rich Swedish music background that has born has music legends like Philly Lutaaya and Maddox Ssematimba, Evon’s ‘New me now’ album has songs like ‘Kampala’ which was one of the revelers’ favorites. The song is a lyrical journey through the streets of Kampala.
Speaking on behalf of Fezah Events, the MC of the day Elijah said that a certain kind of music is slowly dying out.
“Some African legends are dying and we might not be able to replace them, that is why Fezah focuses on jazz, soul and reggae because these genres can tell the African story,” he added.
