A few days back the overseeing body of the Uganda Musician Association (UMA), kicked off the nomination process of electing the new governing body following the expiry of the current executive’s mandate.

Incumbent Cinderella Sanyu, alias Cindy, has already picked her forms and is ready to retain the top position in the association.

Cindy replaced Ykee Benda, who shockingly resigned from the post in 2021. While addressing journalists after her nomination, she said that the association members should trust her again so that she could be able to fully exhaust her intended plans.

According to Cindy, she came into the office during the COVID-19 lockdown, which affected her plans, and now she wants a chance to fully execute it.

However, we have not seen any big musicians endorsing Cindy for the post. But she believes upcountry artistes will overwhelmingly vote for her for another term.

The ‘Boom Party’ singer seems to have a strong opponent in Ssemanda Mansoor, better known as King Saha.

Since picking up forms, Saha has gone into overdrive lobbying fellow artistes to support his bid. Established singers like Bobi Wine, Nubian Li, Jose Chameleone, Weasel, Pallaso, Sheebah Karungi, and Ykee Benda, among others, have publicly expressed their support for Saha.

Notably, singer Moses Ssali better known as Bebe Cool came out to diss Saha. He said his image is not befitting for a leader.

“Though I have issues with Cindy when it comes to her leadership qualities, she is at least a better candidate compared to Saha,” he said.

For starters, UMA has yet to come out clear on how the voting will be conducted. However, sources reveal that only UMA members whose total number is not officially known will participate in the voting.

The association is yet to announce the official date for voting but we have learned that elections are due to take place in May.

Regarding other positions, Bebe Cool’s elder son, Allan Hendrick Byamukama, alias Paper Daddy, Daddy Andre, and Kalifah Aganaga will battle for the Vice President position.

Allan Toniks is bidding for the secretary position, Irene Namatovu for women’s affairs, and Geosteady for finance.
