Following the cancellation of the Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) elections on June 6 after one of the presidential candidates, Manisul Semanda alias King Saha, asked the association to call off the exercise on allegations of election malpractice, the association Electoral Commission has released a statement announcing the new date and venue for the general elections.

In the statement shared by UMA, the elections have been scheduled for June 28.

“It was resolved that the 28th of June 2022 is the new date set for the general elections,” reads the statement.

The Commission has also disclosed that they will not hold an online mode of voting.

“The elections shall be held by secret ballot and the elections shall be carried out at one polling center in Kampala for proper supervision,” the statement continues.

The election will happen at the National Theatre.

The association also explained why they have abandoned the online mode of voting.

“We faced technical challenges with the digital platform sought from the National Information Technology Authority (NITA-U), which rendered the electoral exercise unable to deliver or demonstrate a free and fair result. A decision was made to choose another election date and a more viable method,” reads the statement.
