Uganda’s music veteran, Ragga Dee, is set to mark 37 years in the industry with a grand celebration this Saturday at Serena Hotel Kampala.
Speaking to the media this afternoon, Ragga Dee narrated his journey, revealing that he began singing in the 1980s when Congolese music was very dominant.
He also humorously said, “I started singing when soda was Shs300, and only a few people could afford it. The majority would wait for Christmas Day to drink soda.”
Ragga Dee explained that their generation laid a good foundation for the current crop of artistes, as back then, only Congolese artists could stage concerts at venues like Serena.
On what attendees should expect, Ragga Dee said that he has been doing rehearsals for the last two months.
“I am ready together with my entire band,” he said.
The celebration will also feature surprise appearances from both the old and current generation of artists.
“The artists that will perform on my big day have either worked with me or been inspired by me,” he said.
Over the years, Ragga Dee has been a pillar in the Ugandan music industry, with a strong music catalogue that includes popular songs like Letter O, Ndigida, Parliament Yange, Stanger, and Oyagala Cash, among others.
His event this Saturday is a tribute to his legacy in the industry.
Tickets are priced at Shs100K (MoMo), Shs150K (cash), and 3 million for a table.
