Business mogul Sudhir Ruparelia, Chairman of the Speke Group of Hotels and Ruparelia Group, has been recognised for his exceptional contribution to Uganda’s tourism and hospitality sector.

The award was handed to him on September 27, 2025, during the national celebrations of World Tourism Day in Arua City, officiated by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.

Sudhir, a long-standing champion of wildlife conservation and sustainable tourism, received a golden flamingo trophy—symbolising his dedication to preserving Uganda’s natural heritage while promoting the country as a top global destination.

The colourful event, staged at the picturesque Arua City Golf Course, brought together government officials, international dignitaries, tourism stakeholders, and local communities. The celebrations ran under the 2025 global theme: “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.”

Prime Minister Nabbanja commended the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities and its agencies for their tireless efforts in advancing the sector. She also hailed private investors such as Sudhir, whose ventures continue to shape Uganda’s economy.

“Tourism is one of the pillars of Uganda’s development, and the private sector has been at the centre of this growth. Investors like Dr Sudhir have not only boosted hospitality but also promoted wildlife conservation and community empowerment,” Nabbanja said.

Sudhir’s recognition comes after decades of investment in tourism, conservation, and hospitality. His initiatives have revitalised national parks, supported eco-tourism projects, safeguarded endangered species, and created opportunities for local communities. Through his leadership, Uganda has gained global visibility as a premier travel destination, significantly boosting the country’s economy.

With his influence spanning both business and conservation, Sudhir Ruparelia’s latest honour cements his role as one of the driving forces behind Uganda’s vision of sustainable tourism.
