Match Day 25 of the Chaapa League brought forth an electrifying twist, leaving fans on the edge of their seats at NEC Grounds, Bugolobi on Sunday. The spotlight shone brightly on Chwezi FC, who, with a game to spare, secured their triumph as the Season 8 champions.

The Chaapa League is played by old boys of Mbarara High School and is one of the several Guinness-sponsored old boys’ leagues that are all the rage in town at the moment.

In a nail-biting encounter, Chwezi FC edged their rivals, Hezibola FC winning the game 1-0. The anticipation now builds as Chwezi FC awaits their crowning moment at the Grand Finale scheduled for October 8.

Chwezi FC’s remarkable journey to glory includes an impressive record of 20 wins, 4 draws, and only one loss in 25 games, garnering 64 points. Matu Athletic stands in second place with 59 points, followed by Yobo Yobo in third with 46 points.

Match Day 25 also witnessed the recognition of outstanding individual performances. Norman Rukaari of Matu Athletic secured the prestigious Golden Glove award after keeping 20 clean sheets.

The day also witnessed fierce battles among teams striving to secure better positions on the table and avoid relegation. Dynamos triumphed over See Far FC with a decisive 2-0 victory, securing their place in the top four, while Rugabo FC made a resounding statement by registering a 3-0 win over See Far, elevating them to fifth place.

Tibz delivered a crushing blow to Dinginswayo with a 1-0 victory, leaving Dinginswayo in the relegation zone. Bulls 96 played a goalless draw with Nganwa Legends in a fiercely contested match.

Elizabeth Mutamuliza, Guinness Uganda Brand Manager, shared her thoughts on the event, stating, “One of the reasons why we do this as Guinness is not only to spread the spirit of camaraderie and brotherhood but also to interact with our consumers in the spaces where they feel most comfortable and where they shine.”

Since its inception in 2017, the league that recently secured Guinness sponsorship has seen eight seasons unfold, with a total of 14 teams participating.
