No one throws a celebration quite like the iconic Johnnie Walker! And as Uganda marks 62 years of independence, the global celebratory whisky brand has once again gone all out to honour the nation in grand style.

With a rich legacy spanning over 200 years, Johnnie Walker joined Ugandans in commemorating the 62-year momentous milestone, with the iconic Striding Man leading the charge in the celebrations.

In a heartwarming display of solidarity and respect for Uganda, a video of the Striding Man shows him take a walk along the Independence Day monument gracing Kampala’s skyline, a powerful nod to the nation’s 62 years of independence.

The sight of the Striding Man, a global symbol of progress and bold steps, striding through Kampala, sparked excitement amongst Ugandans on different social media platforms.

The video shows the striding man walking elegantly past the Uganda Independence Monument sculpture located in the center of Kampala City, in the King George V Jubilee gardens, at Nile Avenue.

The Uganda Independence Monument is a historical landmark concrete sculpture. It is 29 feet (6 meters) tall, and is located in the King George V Jubilee gardens at Nile Avenue, between Sheraton Kampala Hotel, with Grand Imperial Hotel to the right, and Standard Chattered Bank to the left.

It symbolizes the Uganda independence from British colonialism on 9 October 1962.

Christine Kyokunda, the Brand Manager of Johnnie Walker Uganda, hailed Ugandans for their continued courage and determination for the last 62 years.

“Reaching this 62-year independence milestone is a significant testament to progress. And what better way to celebrate than with a whisky that embodies those very ideals. Uganda at 62 is a momentous occasion, and we at Johnnie Walker are proud to stand with all Ugandans who have kept making bold steps for both themselves, and our dear nation,” she said.

Kyokunda emphasised that the spirit of progress and bold strides is a natural fit for both Uganda and Johnnie Walker. “For 62 years, Uganda has built, grown, and embraced life’s pleasures, and now we raise a toast to the bold strides the nation has taken. Let’s celebrate together and toast to yet another year of independence, growth, and the courage to keep walking.”

Whisky lovers across the country can join in the festivities by toasting to Uganda at 62 with a glass of Johnnie Walker from their favourite hangouts, or by gifting loved ones with a bottle of Johnnie Walker this Independence Day; a perfect way to mark the occasion.

Since gaining independence in 1962, Uganda has nurtured some of the continent’s most entrepreneurial and resilient people, making this year’s 62nd Independence Day yet another opportunity to celebrate the nation’s bold journey. Johnnie Walker salutes Uganda and all its country men and women that continue to make bold steps, with courage and determination.
