Equity Bank Uganda Ltd has emerged as a standout performer at the 8th edition of the Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU) 2024 Excellence Awards, held at the Protea Kampala Hotel on Friday, November 29, 2024.

The bank clinched the prestigious Best Crisis Communication Management award for its impactful Project Hope Campaign. In addition, Equity Bank Uganda was recognized as a finalist and runner-up in three other competitive categories: the Internal Communication Campaign, the CSR/ESG Campaign, and the Social Media/Digital Communication Campaign of the Year.

Representing the bank at the glittering awards gala were Mr. Nathan Atuhaire, Marketing Supervisor – Digital & Channels, and Barbara Among, Communications Manager, who both expressed gratitude to the judges and PRAU for the recognition.

“We are truly honored to receive this award. It underscores our commitment to excellence and innovation in communication,” said Among.

The PRAU Excellence Awards are a hallmark event in Uganda’s communication industry, celebrating outstanding achievements in public relations practice. The Uganda Communications Commission commended the event, stating: “The PRAU Excellence Awards are a shining example of industry collaboration and a celebration of PR excellence. We proudly support the elevation of this vital field, and together, we’re building a brighter future for public relations.”

The guest of honor, Hon. Shartsi Musherure, Mawogola North Member of Parliament, added a significant milestone to the night by pledging her commitment to champion the Public Relations Practitioners’ Bill in Parliament. The proposed bill aims to regulate Uganda’s public relations sector by ensuring proper training, ethical standards, and recognition of practitioners.

“The bill is a critical tool for PR professionals, communicators, and Uganda at large. It will elevate the profession to the same level as law, medicine, and accounting, ensuring ethical standards and professional growth,” Hon. Musherure said.

PRAU President Tina Wamala underscored the transformative power of innovation in public relations. “Innovation is the spark that ignites creativity and the fuel that drives progress. Tonight, we honor those who push the boundaries of what’s possible in public relations. This bill will be a catalyst for progress, moving PR from a support role to a strategic one,” Wamala said.

The PRAU 2024 Excellence Awards not only celebrated exemplary achievements but also set the stage for the growth and professionalization of public relations in Uganda.
