TLG Group, a Ugandan property developer, has donated a borehole along with scholastic materials, food items, and footwear to residents of Bank Village in Naguru II Parish, Nakawa Division. The gesture, aimed at improving access to clean water and supporting vulnerable families, was made during the unveiling of The Vista Naguru, the company’s latest luxury residential development.

The donation was dedicated to the memory of Rajiv Ruparelia, TLG Group’s co-founder and director, who passed away in May 2025. Known for his philanthropic spirit, Rajiv also served as Managing Director and Trustee of the Ruparelia Foundation.

“This is in memory of our brother, Rajiv Ruparelia, and as TLG Group, we are committed to continuing such community efforts,” said Sheena Ruparelia, Director at TLG Group and Trustee of the Ruparelia Foundation. She urged local residents to protect and maintain the facility to ensure its long-term benefit.

Also present at the handover were Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, Mrs. Jyostna Ruparelia, and Meera Ruparelia—all directors of the Ruparelia Group and trustees of the Foundation.

Young members of the Ruparelia family hand over supplies to a child in Bank Village, Naguru—part of a community outreach held in honour of the late Rajiv Ruparelia.

The borehole is a critical intervention in Bank Village, a densely populated informal settlement where clean water is scarce and expensive. Most residents, particularly women-headed households, rely on private vendors, paying up to Shs100 per 20-litre jerrycan—a steep cost for families living below the poverty line.

“This is very important here, because not everyone in the community can afford Shs100 for water every day,” said Baker Lagol, LCI Chairperson of Bank Village.

The burden of collecting water often falls on women and girls, who spend hours each day on the task—time that could otherwise be used for education, income generation, or caregiving. According to a 2021 report by WaterAid Uganda, families in Kampala’s informal settlements spend up to 22% of their monthly income on water, far exceeding the UN’s recommended threshold of 3–5%.
