The French community in Uganda turned Kingdom Kampala into a lively blend of culture, business and celebration as hundreds gathered for this year’s Beaujolais Nouveau event, hosted by the Embassy of France and organised by the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Uganda (FCCU).

Ambassador Virginie Leroy led the evening, welcoming over 800 guests and describing the Beaujolais Nouveau tradition as a symbol of joy and French cultural identity. She explained that the young, fruity wine released every November is more than a seasonal favourite — it reflects the pride of French winemakers and the festive spirit that has turned the celebration into a global affair enjoyed from “Tokyo to New York, Paris to Kampala.”

The Ambassador also recognised the FCCU’s growing impact, noting that French companies remain Uganda’s largest private investors. She emphasised the rising interest from businesses in both countries and reaffirmed the Embassy’s dedication to strengthening partnerships well into 2026.

A major highlight of the night was the appearance of Master Cheesemaker Grégory Giraudon — a celebrated French artisan and award-winning cheesemonger. Giraudon is in Uganda to train local chefs, offering intensive sessions on cheese craft, presentation, and gastronomy, part of efforts to support skills development in the hospitality sector. Ambassador Leroy described him as a “passionate ambassador of French cheese culture” and a true symbol of French excellence.

Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed wine tastings, French cuisine and cultural showcases, along with wide-ranging networking among business leaders, diplomats and the Ugandan-French community.

Ambassador Leroy captured the spirit of the night with a toast, calling France and Uganda “perfect complements — like wine and cheese,” and celebrating the long-standing friendship between the two nations.
